How C.A.R.E. began...

Grace English, M.D. knew from her own abortion experience that there was a need for a ministry such as this for women who have had abortions and were suffering silently because of the shame and guilt they still had because of their decision to abort sometime in their past. 12 years after her abortion, Grace was invited to a post-abortion bible study and through the next following weeks and months, she grasped and finally embraced the forgiveness that the Lord and Savior wanted to give her.  Until then, she had felt so unworthy to receive it.

In the fall of 2007 Grace felt the Lord's call on her life to start a post abortion ministry in the East Texas area.  She and 2 other ladies began to lead abortion recovery bible studies in the Spring of 2008. They began with one evening class a week but over the next year, began offering two evening classes and one day class.  In 2010 God birthed Christ-centered Abortion Recovery of East Texas (C.A.R.E.) in Grace's heart and the doors began to quickly open.  This same year, C.A.R.E. began to minister to men who have lost children to abortions. The small team of 3 that began in 2008 grew to 20 almost overnight by 2010.  The Lord began to send other men and women from all areas of East Texas that had their own abortion experience that needed healing.  While going through the bible studies provided by C.A.R.E. a number of individuals feel the call on their own life to join the team and help others find the freedom and hope that is found when true forgiveness is accepted by Jesus Christ.  C.A.R.E. also consists of non post abortive individuals that simply have a heart and passion for seeing others set free from the bondage of a past abortion.

C.A.R.E. first began under the umbrella of Grace's home church, Green Acres Baptist.  But as the ministry grew, Grace along with other leaders on the team saw the need to expand and not limit what the ministry could do.  After much prayer, C.A.R.E. followed God's lead in 2011 and is now a 501(c)(3) Non profit organization.

Currently C.A.R.E. facilitates studies every spring and fall season and in 2011 we began our first summer session. Each facilitator whether post abortive or non post abortive is required to go through a study for themselves to prepare for leading their own study.  C.A.R.E. is also looking forward to providing weekend healing retreats in 2012, which will consist of a 4 day workshop to accommodate those that may not be able to make it to the weekly studies.  In addition to bible studies, C.A.R.E. also holds an annual Sanctity of Human Life Service (SOHLS) each January, open to the surrounding communities and people from the entire East Texas region.  C.A.R.E.'s first SOHLS brought in approx 250 guests.  The next year 2011, brought more than 700 including nationally known guest speaker Claire Culwell - Abortion Survivor and U.S. Congressman Louie Gohmert as well as State Representative Leo Berman.  C.A.R.E. will continue to hold a SOHLS each year hoping to draw in more and more people to hear the truth about abortion and the hope of recovery through the bible studies and education that C.A.R.E. provides.

Members of C.A.R.E. also speak publicly, at churches, schools, womens conferences, etc. giving their own testimony and telling others about C.A.R.E.  Each member of the team has found an amazing freedom and the chains have been broken, resulting in the desire to tell everyone that will listen how our Lord can restore what the enemy attempted to steal.  Including self worth, relationships with others and their relationship with God. C.A.R.E. continues to grow as God opens the doors and leads our path. We are thankful for the opportunity to use the pain and regret about our own abortion decisions for God's glory to help others break free and speak the truth as well.  Isaiah 61:1-4 speaks to the heart of who we truly are and what God has called us to do.

Isaiah 61:1-4 "1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to
proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the  brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the

captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,  to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day
of vengeance  of our God, to comfort all who mourn,  3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow
on them a crown of beauty  instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning,  and a garment of praise instead
of a spirit of despair. They will be  called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.
4 They will rebuild  the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that
have been devastated for generations."
